ROTHSTEIN - Morton, PhD.
May 11, 2023. Age 100 and 8 months. Professor Emeritus of the Department of Biological Sciences at the University at Buffalo where he studied the biochemistry of aging. Mort lived a full and happy life. He was the devoted husband of Jean Rothstein for 75 years until her death a year ago. He is survived by his loving children, David (Lisa) Rothstein, Donna Rothstein, Marilyn (Rick) Frappa; grandchildren, Eric (Leah) Rothstein, David Rothstein, Jennifer (Geoffrey) Kendall, Andrew (Allie) Rothstein, Dana Rothstein, Nicholas (Emily) Frappa, Derek Frappa; great-grandson Killian Rothstein, much loved sister-in-law and friend, Netty Prosterman. Mort is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews with whom he had very special relationships. Preceded in death by his dear parents, Sam and Etta Rothstein; son Zel Rothstein; sister Sopie Kirtner; brother Aser Rothstein; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Rothstein, Bill Kirtner, Molly and Julius Balshine, Sylvia and Joe Miller, and Barney Prosterman. Mort’s greatest joy was being with all his extended family and vacationing with them. He was born in Vancouver B.C. and grew up surrounded by his relatives. He became an avid skier before the advent of ski lifts. He played tennis and bridge into his late 90’s and continued playing poker and doing crossword puzzles until his passing. Family and friends probably remember him best for his jokes and storytelling. His sense of humor never diminished over the years. A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, June 25th at 10:00 AM at MESNEKOFF FUNERAL HOME, E. Amherst, NY 14051. Interment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Park.
