Fay Terris Friedman

March 14, 1926 - January 24, 2025

Fay Terris Friedman, a longtime resident of Clarence, N.Y., passed on January 24, 2025 at the age of 98 in California, where she lived in the company of family for the last ten years. Born to Becky and Louis Terris in 1926 in Brooklyn, N.Y., Fay learned the violin as a young girl and music became her life’s passion. She was an active chamber musician and concert goer and never far from a radio or phonograph playing classical music.

After earning her bachelor’s degree from Hunter College and a master’s degree from N.Y.U., Fay worked as a school psychologist and then taught psychology at D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y. for over two decades. While a professor at D’Youville, she earned a PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Fay was always a champion of women’s rights and advancement and served as co-president of the Buffalo chapter of NOW (the National Organization for Women).

Fay’s leisure activities beyond music included travel, art, reading, theater, swimming and bicycling, and she cherished spending time with her family.

Fay was predeceased by Fred Friedman, her loving husband of over 50 years, and her siblings Miriam Fleischman and Murry Terris. She is survived by her sons Robert (Cindy), Lawrence (Judy Lockridge) and Richard (Rhonda Leal); grandchildren Justin, Kathryn, Rebecca (Sergio), Suzanna (David), Elliot and Henry; and her great grandchildren Scout, Hilde and Maisie.

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 21st at 11AM at MESNEKOFF FUNERAL HOME, 8630 Transit Rd., E. Amherst, NY 14051.
