Sheila M. Trossman
Sheila Moire Trossman passed peacefully on March 4th, 2025 surrounded by her children. She was born in Buffalo in November 1939, the first child of Tillie and George Weinrub. She considered Buffalo her home for her entire life.
Sheila earned her Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University in 1961. She taught mathematics at Bennet High School in Buffalo and was a longtime substitute teacher and tutor in the Williamsville/Amherst/Clarence school systems.
Sheila married Martin Trossman in 1961 and together they were active members of the Buffalo and, especially, the Buffalo Jewish community. Sheila was a long-time member, leader and volunteer at Temple Beth El and its Sisterhood, Buffalo Jewish Liberal Arts, Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, Torah Fund, Hadassah, the Buffalo Jewish Federation, and the B’nai Torah Congregation of Boca Raton. She collected lifelong friends from these organizations, as well as her Cornell alumna group, the Westwood Country Club, the Boca Lago Club of Boca Raton, Florida and most recently at the Riderwood Village of Silver Spring, Maryland. She was a happy participant in bridge groups, book clubs, and Jewish study groups wherever she found herself.
Sheila is predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, Martin Trossman, and her brother, Allen Weinrub, of Oakland, California. She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Lusthaus of Montreal, Canada and brother, Mark Weinrub of Margate, Florida, as well as her three children: Brian (Marie) Trossman of Canonsburg, PA, David (Marlene) Trossman of Clarksville, MD and Ilene (Daniel) Salzmann of Lausanne, Switzerland. Sheila leaves behind eight adoring grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held Sunday 2pm at MESNEKOFF FUNERAL HOME, 8630 Transit Rd., E. Amherst 14051. Shiva will be held Sunday immediately following the interment until 8pm & Monday 1-8pm with a minyan at 7pm both evenings at Sue Freed’s residence: 118 Crestwood Ln., Williamsville 14221.
